A reimagined ECCO universe tells a unique story

Scandinavian design, combined with ECCO’s unique leathers, results in bags that look great, feel even better and really work. With the new retail concept, ECCO wants to bring out its uniqueness and surprise customers that don’t know that ECCO makes quality leather and leather goods.

The retail concept, which will be implemented worldwide, has already launched in five stores in Europe and Asia. Further roll-outs in ECCO stores and department stores will take place in the second half of 2015.

The store design concept combines a light interior with wooden details and leather elements to create an inspiring Scandinavian environment, which highlights the leather goods collection. The concept has been developed by ECCO to ensure that the brand DNA is an integrated part of every ECCO interior.

“With surprising leather detailing, we want to tell ECCO’s leather story from a different angle,” explains Tanja Hybschmann, Project Manager, Branded Space at ECCO. “We want to invite consumers to touch and feel the interior and develop a tactile connection to our products and our design and manufacturing concept.”

The stores feature three-dimensional leather walls with a geometric, quintessentially Scandinavian pattern, and embossed leather curtains that give customers a chance to see leather in a new way.

ECCO’s integrated process of creating its own leathers and designing its own leather goods enables the company to work purposefully with the products from start to finish. The new store concept enables ECCO to visualize this approach and tell the company’s unique story.

“We have been very happy to see consumers’ positive reactions to the new store concept,” says Lindsay Campbell, Managing Director, ECCO Accessories “We can now tell our story through our stores, and offer consumers an environment that expresses our design philosophy and our passion for leather.”

Leather craftsmanship

ECCO's design process begins with the leather. ECCO is one of the world’s few companies to own its own tanneries and is a leader when it comes to leather innovation, working with some of the most renowned luxury goods brands in the world. The company’s vast expertise in leather craftsmanship plays an essential role in the design process: the various leather types inform and shape the design and give the products their unique expression.

Scandinavian design

The Scandinavian design tradition, rooted in the belief that form should follow function, is at the core of all ECCO collections. ECCO designs are simple, sophisticated and timeless. Style is grounded in textures, shapes and colours rather than in embellishments. Functionality is part of the design and, in the case of bags and small leather goods, lies in intuitive use, easy access and the secure organization of belongings. ECCO’s goal is to let consumers go about their days in effortless style with the longevity of uncompromising quality.
